Thunderstruck

Young Democrats of Atlanta in the News

The Young Democrats of Atlanta made it into 11 Alive's 11 PM broadcast last night.

There is some odd coding that can't post here, so go to YDAtl's site to watch it. Look for me in there a couple of times.

Also, remember I said Obama would get 360 Electoral College votes? He currently stands at 364.Privately I had told a couple people he would get 365 votes and guess what, he may get the Omaha Electoral College Vote.

Another Party Switcher?

Do we have another party switcher? I hope so and you know what Republicans, you can take his ethically challenged behind.

Vernon Jones at the GOP election night party.

The ever estimable Thomas Wheatley at CL took that pic.

CiL

Oh yeah, we will cover it live tonight.

Just a heads up: I predict CiL to be very bogged down tonight. If it gets too bad, I can just create a chat room in meebo

The Final Word

Public Polict Polling released its last poll for Georgia and the news is encouraging.

McCain holds a slight lead, 50%-48%, so with a little more GOTV, we could go blue.

Oh. Heck. Yes.

Thanks to Taegan for that.

[UPDATE]: The headline made me think of " title="SCSA: "That's the bottom line...CAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO!"">Stone Cold Steve Austin for some reason. I think it was because of his line: That's the bottom line cause Stone Cold said so!

Obama on Georgia

According to Taegan Goddard, Obama is buying ads in Georgia now.

This is one of those ads:

The Obama campaign also said that because of all the absentee ballots in Georgia the race is "already nearly half over", in Goddard's words.

I don't want to sound like the Mighty Casey here but, Obama will win. Big. I'm excited.

Isn't it Odd

Here is something I just realized.

Many of the GOP's stalwarts back John McCain and sing his praises because "he is a maverick" who bucks the party (which is an absurd way for a party to support its candidate for President but I digress...).

But whenever a Republican shows a slight independent streak and endorses Obama (thereby bucking the Republican Party and acting like a maverick), they are ostracized by conservatives and asked to leave the party.

Can we get some new right-wingers?

An Observation

Just an observation here...

Watching McSame's speech in Defiance, Iowa Ohio (that is one heck of a name) and he sounds defeated. It  sounds like he doesn't care about what he is saying. The crowd is terribly disinterested and unenthusiastic, failing to applaud at a couple pauses in the speech. It is a very bad vibe with just five days left in the election.

That is all.

Random Thoughts Blogging

A few random thoughts...

Wow. That Obama ad tonight. Not going to lie to you, got a little misty at times. He's going to make one heck of a President.

Bobby Saxon got endorsed by the Athens Banner Herald. It is the first time in six years they've endorsed a Democrat in a position higher than state senator. Good for him.

Pro hoops started up again yesterday. But that isn't what really matters (even though I do love a good game in the NBA). College basketball begins in 12 days. Oh yes. I'll tell you this much: this year is UNC's to lose. Sorry flack.

I predicted 360 Electoral College votes for Obama. I'm sticking by it.

What else is going on in your area? How are people reacting to the BHO? Predictions for Tuesday? Consider this an open thread?

McCain up by One Point

Right off the bat I'll say it is an Insider Advantage poll.

However, McCain is up by one point in Georgia.

Seriously y'all, what the heck is going on here?

Also, Shameless is up by 1.5%.

Then there is this gem from the perfectly-coiffed Towery:

“Ironically, Obama had a better shot of winning Georgia than North Carolina or Florida but he’s letting it slip away.”

Yeah, uh, not so much. Maybe Towery reads the Tavern. If he does I'd like an answer to these questions (and, dear readers, feel free to chime in): how did Obama have a better shot of winning Georgia when he's only lead here once before and he has always been closer in FL and NC? And how is he letting that slip away if he is pulling ahead in both states?

Stating the Obvious

"Top" McCain aide calls Sarah Palin a "whack job."

To which I say: "you think?"

For Flack

Flackattack, this one's for you.

Benji! was fined $1K and must perform 100 hours of community service for punishment from his DUI.

Hopefully, if flackattack ever comes back around he will give us a suitable amount of apoplexy over this.

I do wonder though if it won't be easy for Benji! to avoid doing community service. It seems as if there would be any number of non profits in his district or elsewhere, willing to sign off on the House Appropriations Chairman's community service. Regardless of how many of those 100 hours he actually performed.
