- About me
- I'm a family therapist, small business owner, married, Baptist, ordained minister, mother and a proud Democratic women in the heart of the South. I am a small business owner, in private practice in Macon and focus on work with children, families and couples. I'm active in my community having served on the executive board for Community Partnership, the Family Connection project for Bibb County and on the board of the Georgia Children's Museum. Currently, I serve on the board for The Center for Racial Understanding in Macon. Politically speaking, I am on the executive committee for the Democratic Party of Georgia and Vice Chair of Georgia's WIN List. The opinions expressed on GWV, though, are mine and only mine, not those of any of these fine organizations.

My Comments
And, look. I just managed to correct the spelling of his name! Sorry, Rob, uh, I mean future Mr. AG.
Amen and Amen. I wanted to just say Amen, but the thing told me my comment was "too short." Who knew I could be too short winded. But seriously, what had the potential to be an interesting candidacy is looking less and less professional.
Actually, though this has been a long time coming, I chair the platform committee for the DPG, and we finished our work about a year ago. For various reasons, some of them quite reasonable, the document has taken a long time to work its way through our process. I expect the Executive Committee and the State Committee to have an opportunity to vote on it in May. What is unique about this platform is that it is not an "insider" document. Instead, in addition to state committee members, we reached out to democrats in the state who (1) had expertise in various areas, like healthcare and education, and (2) in our message testing we included a broad range of Georgians. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but a lot of good folks worked really hard on it, and it is good platform. I am anxious to see it adopted. It will mark the first time in a very long time democrats in Georgia had a platform other than the one handed to us by the Governor.
Yes, to a lot lot that , (what Jon said) but in the vote totals for the down-ballot races in 2006, you have to consider that Baker was the incumbant. He did get 58K more votes than Thurmond who was also an incumbant, but that race was further down the ballot, so you'd expect some drop off. Cagle and Handel were not incumbents, plus they both had Liberterians in their races who drew 75-80K votes, so I don't think their numbers are comparable to Baker's. We already know we have an African American Liberterian in the Governor's race-that does not help Baker in this instance. Baker also will not have the advantage of incumbency in the Governor's race. Being AG provides some name ID, but I bet less than we'd hope-and some of it is negative because of the Wilson case. I would like to see a statewide poll that pits him against the likely R's. Indeed, victory will be tough in 2010, so we need to field our strongest candidate. Singular. Is that Baker? I remain unconvinced.
